Grades 8 - 12
Clifton College boys are confident, self-disciplined, courteous, capable and well-rounded individuals who are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity on offer at our school.
Whether in the classroom, on the stage or on the sports fields, our boys work in an environment of excellence and rigour. Every boy is encouraged to involve himself to the full in order to ensure that he makes the most of all that the College has to offer.
Balanced, Confident Individuals
Clifton College boys benefit from individual care and attention that small classes bring and they learn in well-equipped and stimulating environments. Experienced teachers, the use of advanced educational technology and the ability to employ an independent, innovative, modern and creative methodology mean that our boys are exposed to a dynamic academic programme in which they are challenged constantly to achieve their very best.
Clifton College boys write the Independent Examination Board examinations in Grade 9 and Grade 12 and are well equipped to take on the challenges of tertiary education. We realize that our boys will be living in a global environment and we provide a world class education so that they are able to excel in their lives after school.

Participation, Competition & Performance!
We believe that participation in sport at a competitive and social level is the cornerstone of a young man's development. Boys are encouraged to experience the benefits of team and life sports, and they are taught the importance of a healthy lifestyle and are encouraged to make exercise a lifelong activity. Our boys participate in a modern and innovative sporting and exercise curriculum that makes full use of our highly experienced coaching staff as well as extensive use of specialist professional coaches.
Our teams are competitive at all levels and in all sports and all of our boys are given the opportunity to represent their school and join the many Clifton boys who have represented their provinces and their country in a variety of sporting codes. The development of our world class Aquatic Centre, our partnership with Riverside Sports and the establishment of the Clifton Sport Campus at the club, our association with the Durban Country Club which includes the use of the Club's tennis courts, professional coaching services and the golf course; as well as our partnership in the Durban Girls' College astroturf mean that Clifton is able to offer premier league facilities for all sports.
The Clifton High Performance Centre, which includes world class exercise equipment and a fully trained staff, is open to all boys at no additional charge. Boys receive a training programme for either general fitness or for specific sporting needs and are supervised in their training programmes by strength and conditioning professionals. In addition, boys are able to make use of the services of a physiotherapist and a biokineticist, who advises on rehabilitation, prehabilitation and recovery.

Arts and Culture
Our young men know that a well-rounded education involves a real appreciation of the Arts and they are given unique opportunities to enrich themselves. Our Music Department offers individual tuition in a wide range of brass, string, percussion and woodwind instruments as well as in piano and voice. Our choir and our musicians perform regularly on a variety of stages. Boys who are interested in theatre are given numerous opportunities to perform in our school productions as well as in the inter-house festivals. Our school productions include the staging of the annual junior play for Grade 8 and 9 boys, the senior play for boys in Grades 10, 11 and 12 and a production for our more adventurous thespians.
Clubs and Societies
Clifton boys are able to choose from a variety of clubs and societies that take place as part of the formal school curriculum and in the co-curricular programme. In this way, they are able to experience new challenges and extend their interests in activities that lie well beyond the bounds of the classroom.
We ensure that Clifton boys are involved in their wider community and that they appreciate the opportunities which are given to them to serve others. Our partnership with the Isibonelo HIgh School is the principal focus of our community service, as it links the two schools in exciting educational, social, cultural and environmental projects throughout the year. In addition to social, sporting and cultural activities that are enjoyed by pupils from both schools, Clifton runs a Science Saturday School for students from Isibonelo in our laboratories.
