Jane Magner has grown up in the Durban music scene and has made a name for herself through her passion, expertise and versatility as a performer and teacher across different musical genres and disciplines.

She aims to bring out the best musician in each child, providing them with an outlet to enjoy, add value and find meaning in themselves and the world around them through the art of music.

Nina Watson

Nina Watson

HEAD OF CHORAL MUSIC

From the age of 4, Nina was trying to work out songs on the piano and so her musical journey began.  She attended piano and cello lessons before even learning to read, and joined the Betty Pack Youth String Orchestra at the age of 6. Later she joined the Transvaal Chamber Orchestra while enjoying various sporting activities at High School – especially netball. Nina played club netball after school and after working at a bank for a year, studied music at Wits University.

For 23 years thereafter, Nina was a tutti cellist in the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanying musicians on the piano and playing in a quartet – travelling to India, Switzerland and France to perform in honor of Freedom Day and Mandela Day. Nina says, “The most memorable moment in my musical profession was performing at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday in Qunu.”

Nina was Head of Music at Crawford College North Coast for 9 years, while juggling time with her two sons, their sports and music.  She has looked forward to joining – or rather rejoining – the Clifton Music Department. In the early 90s, Nina taught piano lessons and early morning theory at Clifton, passing on all piano students to Tania Rousine.

Nina is excited to be working with other experienced and active professional musicians in the department.
